Stainless Steel Dishwasher

Stainless Steel Dishwasher : The Best Choice for a Professional Kitchen.

A stainless steel dishwasher is the perfect complement for the modern trend to create a clean, professional, chef's kitchen. Almost all of the major manufacturers of dishwashers have stainless steel models in their product lines. This means that you have a huge selection to choose from.

Be aware that the term 'stainless steel' can refer to both the external look of the dishwasher and also refer to the interior construction material. Both types are explained below.

It's Whats Inside that Matters

The internal 'box' part of a dishwasher is called the tub. This tub area is where the racks of dishes live and where the water jets or wash arms are contained. There are two basic versions - plastic or stainless steel.

Older dishwashers used to have tubs that were made of metal coated in a hard enamel shell. The problem with these were that the enamel would chip or crack and then the metal would rust. Plastic tubs came along and solved all of these problems. Don't be fooled by the idea of a plastic tub. These tubs are strong, durable and will typically outlive the lifetime of the dishwasher itself.

However, improvements are always being made and along came stainless steel tubs. These have all of the same advantages over the old enamel tubs but also have additional benefits when compared with plastic tubs.

Stainless Steel Tubs

In addition to being resistant to cracking and rusting, stainless steel dishwasher tubs are heavier and thicker than the plastic type. This means that they tend to be quieter when cleaning dishes. The thick metal can withstand more heat which means that the water in a stainless steel dishwasher can be heated to a higher temperature. The hotter the water, the better the cleaning power of the dishwasher. Water that reaches 165 F will also increase the efficiency of the detergent through a stronger chemical reaction.

Metal also retains heat better than plastic which means that it acts as a heat source during the drying phases of the cleaning cycle. Using less energy during drying will save you money on power over the years.

There is a downside and the main one is price. A stainless steel dishwasher will have a higher ticket price than an equivalent plastic tub model. However, you need to check the energy ratings of the models and decide for yourself what the longer term costs will be for the plastic tub.

Something else to consider is whether you live in a hard water area. If you do then be aware than the shiny new interior of your new dishwasher will quickly begin to show calcium deposits. This will happen in a plastic tub as well but just won't be visibleas easily. For those of you who like to see what they are dealing with, you might consider this an advantage of the stainless steel tub. Most people though, will simply begin to hate being reminded that they need to clean off those deposits regularly. So, good thing or bad thing, you decide.

Ooooh, that Sleek Stainless Steel Look!

Dishwashers are often referred to as stainless steel simply because the front door panel is made of this material. A lot of modern kitchens want to have that professional look. Nothing says professional more than stainless steel appliances.

Professional chefs prefer stainless steel because it is strong and durable. It doesn't rust or corrode. However. they also like this material for the same reason that doctors like to wear white coats. Stainless steel shows up marks and dirt very clearly. A working chef appreciates this bcause they can assign a member of their staff to keep them clean and rest assured that their kitchen is germ free. However, the person that will be wiping off all of the fingerprints from your dishwasher is going to be you. Fingerprints are the biggest complaint that people have after buying any stainless steel kitchen appliance. Cleaning stainless steel isn't hard though, so as long as you keep a damp cloth nearby it shouldn't be a big issue. Just remember to follow the damp cloth with a dry cloth, or water spots will appear.

Buying Dishwashers Online

As always, it is great to be able to touch and try out a dishwasher in a store before you buy it. Just remember that there are advantages to coming home and checking things online before you decide to buy. No matter which store you visit, there will be a larger selection online. Often there are special deals on the internet that you never see in stores. Plus you will usually get good deals on Finance or Delivery from merchant's websites.
